As a gaming blogsite, there are several things I like to talk about, the concepts of games, how games coincide with our lives, or just the games themselves. But, to enjoy these games and experience what they offer, you will need the right gear. Which is why I’m not doing a review on any games this time but on a game accessory. Today, I’m reviewing a set of gaming headphones, the HyperX Cloud Stinger.

Disclaimer: For testing, I played Overwatch, Apex Legends, and Titanfall 2 on my Xbox One S and Gaming PC with high settings.

What Are We Talking About?

The HyperX Cloud Stinger gaming headphones (I thought I already mentioned that)?

So, What’s Good?

Honestly, almost everything. The headphones feature comfortable over-the-ear ear cups. The headphones are also lightweight and feature 90-degree ear cup rotation to make it easier to stay either on your head or your neck.

Another positive includes its accessibility to any console from Nintendo Switch to PC. As long as your device has a 3.5 mm headphone jack, these headphones will work. As a bonus, its completely integrated for Discord, MS Teams, and Zoom.

The last positives I want to point out is the build and sound quality. Most of the build outside of the adjustable steel slider and ear cups are covered in a matte-black plastic. Which makes these look the cleanest and straightforward design I have ever seen in the headphones $50 price range. Along with the build, the sound is incredible. Although it does not feature 7.1 surround sound, I’m willing to overlook that. What I couldn’t overlook though was…

Then, What’s Bad?

The headset’s microphone almost killed this for me. At one point, having this mic was so bad, it ALMOST couldn’t outweigh the good. Let me explain. I really like almost everything about this headset. At first, it worked as advertised, but over the next few days, the mic would be very hit or miss until I had to go into the settings of my Xbox and PC to fix it. Unless you know how to change the mic settings on your own respective system or console, you might think it can be defective. (At least, that’s what most of, if not, all the negative reviewers I read said). Fortunately, if you’re headset actually is defective, you have a 2-year warranty activated automatically on the purchase plus free customer support from the hyperxgaming website.

Final Thoughts:

The HyperX Cloud Stinger headset is a great gaming accessory. Between the bang-for-your-buck build, sound quality, and comfort, I can easily recommend these to someone who is starting to take their gaming seriously. Or someone who has extra cash and wants to give to their kid some decent headphones they can grow with.

TL; DR: Is it worth it? Why yes. Yes, it’s worth it even at full price.
