What’s up, gaming community? By the time you read this, the first quarter of 2023 is in the books, and another month of free games has arrived to validate those paid subscriptions or apps. Suppose you have yet to find any good games for yourself in March. Fortunately, April has shown some potential. These are sure to bring some excitement this quarter. This article will contain a list of free games for April 2023, varying by platform (PlayStation, Xbox, or PC).
As a reminder, Epic Games will announce which game is free the week prior. Without further ado, let’s begin.
PlayStation Plus Essential is a monthly subscription that offers a PS4 game and three PS5 games. Disclaimer: If your subscription expires, the games are blocked without renewal or buying the game separately. The last chance to download April-dated games is May 1st
For April 2023, the PlayStation Plus player base will be able to download the following:
- Battlefield 2042 (PS5/PS4) (March 7th until April 3rd)
- Minecraft Dungeons (PS4) (March 7th until April 3rd)
- Code Vein (PS4) (March 7th until April 3rd)
- Meet Your Maker (PS5/PS4) (April 4th until May 1st)
- Sackboy™: A Big Adventure (PS5/PS4) (April 4th until May 1st)
- Tails of Iron (PS5/PS4) (April 4th until May 1st)
It’s a shame for Xbox when PlayStation makes their games accessible on their service. I don’t have much experience with Meet Your Maker, but I have not heard anything horrible about the game, but I would try it for free. The feeling is mutual with Sackboy outside of playing Little Big Planet when I was little. Encouraging players to try games they would never play is the whole idea of these extra nuggets, and PlayStation has maintained the idea so far.
Xbox Live Gold is a subscription that offers two Xbox Series/Xbox One games. Disclaimer: Any Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One games thru Gold will not be accessible until the subscription has been renewed. Any Xbox 360 games obtained thru Gold will be permanently added to the user’s library even after the subscription ends.
For April 2023, Xbox Live Gold players will be able to download the following:
- Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One:
- Lamentum (March 16th until April 15th)
- Out of Space: Couch Edition (April 1st until April 30th)
- Peaky Blinders: Mastermind (April 16th until May 15th)
If you’ve seen the show Peaky Blinders, you will like Peaky Blinders: Mastermind. Without spoiling it, I can’t say much, but the story is worth a play. Out of Space works under the same idea as Overcooked. The better you play, the more options and rooms unlock. So far, this has been Microsoft’s first decent month with decent games. Will these games attract more people with Games With Gold? Not exactly. However, these are the first diamonds in the rough that I can recommend.
Prime Gaming (formerly Twitch Prime) is available to all Amazon Prime members, giving PC games and DLC to users each week and month. Amazon Luna members also get exclusive monthly free games. Disclaimer: All weekly games will be available until the beginning of next month. All non-weekly games will remain open for 365 days. Some games/DLC require connecting your Amazon account with 3rd –party developer websites (will be identified). Any games or DLC obtained will be permanently added to the user’s library, even after the Prime subscription ends.

Finally, we got the Epic Games Store also for the PC. Disclaimer: Any games obtained will be added to the user’s library after the free period ends. Epic Games Store doesn’t require a paid subscription of any kind.

April looks like a good month this year. There was nothing horrible. Even Xbox had a couple of interesting choices. There are few grabs to get on the wish list compared to last month. There will be some more deals coming out later this month. Worst case, we have May to fall back on.
