It has been a while since I’ve done this but let’s get back into it. September has arrived with another set of free games to get with those paid subscriptions or apps. This article will contain a list of free games for September 2022, varying by platform (PlayStation, Xbox, or PC).

As a reminder, Epic Games won’t announce which game is free until the week prior. So, I will be updating this article weekly. Without further ado, let’s begin.

PlayStation Plus Essential is a subscription that offers a combination of 2 PS4 games and a PS5 this month. Disclaimer: If your subscription expires, the games are blocked without renewal or buying the game separately. If you also have PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium, you can still get these games if you claim them before the deadline. (Why does Sony gotta make things so complicated?)

For September 2022, the PlayStation Plus player base will be able to download:

  • Need for Speed Heat (PS4) (September 6th until October 3rd)
  • Granblue Fantasy: Versus (PS4) (September 6th until October 3rd)
  • Toem (PS5) (September 6th until October 3rd)

Xbox Live Gold is a subscription that offers a combination of two Xbox Series/Xbox One games, one Xbox 360 game, and one original Xbox game. Disclaimer: Any games obtained will be permanently added to the user’s library even after the subscription ends. All free 360 and original Xbox games will be automatically backward-compatible with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

For September 2022, the Xbox Live Gold players will be able to download:

  • Xbox One:
    • Gods Will Fall (September 1st until 30th)
    • Double Kick Heroes (September 16th until October 15th)
  • Xbox 360:
    • Portal 2 (September 16th until 30th)
  • Original Xbox:
    • Thrillville (September 1st until 15th)

I’ll keep this short. Get Portal 2. It’s a blast to play through the single-player story and equally fun to grab a friend and do the 2-player co-op. I chose Portal 2 as one of the best games for my beginners’ article. If I know beginners will like the game, then anyone will like this game.

Lord of the Ring Fans are in for a good time.

Prime Gaming (formerly Twitch Prime) is available to all Amazon Prime members, giving PC games and DLC to users each month. Disclaimer: Any games or DLC obtained will be permanently added to the user’s library even after the Prime subscription ends. Some games/DLC require connecting your amazon account with 3rd –party developer websites (will be identified).

To the PC master race for September 2022 (between September 1st and October 1st), you will receive:

  1. Free until October 1st:
    • Football Manager 2022 (Epic Games)
    • Castle on the Coast
    • Defend the Rook
    • The Dig
    • We. The Revolution
    • Assassin’s Creed Origins (Ubisoft Connect)
    • Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor – Game of the Year Edition (GOG.com)
    • Word of the Law: Death Mask Collector’s Edition (Legacy Games)

Assassin’s Creed Origins and Shadow of Mordor are easy pick-ups if you haven’t played them. Coincidentally, both are considered AAA stealth games. The only difference is Origins is more RPG-heavy while Shadow of Mordor has a revolutionized (and copyrighted) nemesis system and is worth the gameplay alone.

Lastly, we got the Epic Games Store also for the PC. Disclaimer: Any games obtained will be added to the user’s library after the free period ends. Epic Games Store doesn’t require a paid subscription of any kind. PC players for the rest of September 2022 will also be able to get:

  • ARK: Survival Evolved (September 22nd until 29th)
  • Gloomhaven (September 22nd until 29th)
  • Runbow (September 29th until October 6th)
  • The Drone Racing League® (September 29th until October 6th)

September looks to be a solid month for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. On Xbox, Portal 2 is a great puzzle game if you’re looking for fun with family, a friend, or anyone new to gaming. For Playstation, play Need For Speed. Fast cars, races, and adrenaline carrying you to the finish line are always enjoyable. Lastly, PC gamers have a few choices between Assassin’s Creed and ARK

That will do it for this month. Make sure you come back here for any updates. While you’re at it, subscribe to or follow me on Twitter @_urgegaming and check out the free games from last month. I hope you and your loved ones have a blessed day and a cultural month. Peace.
