Gamer-boys and gamer-ladies, oh my God, we’re back again. It’s a new month, and that means new free games to get some downloads. This article will contain a list of free games for September 2020 varying by platform (PlayStation, Xbox, or PC).
As a reminder, Epic Games won’t announce which game is free until the week prior. So, this article will be updated weekly. Without further ado, let’s begin.
PlayStation Plus is a subscription that offers 1 PS4 game and maybe (likely not), either a PS3, PS Vita, or PS4 game each month. Disclaimer: If your subscription expires, the games are blocked without renewal or buying the game separately.
For September 2020, PlayStation Plus members will be able to own:
- PlayerUnknowns: Battlegrounds (September 1st until October 5th)
- Street Fighter V (September 1st until October 5th)
Both are good introductions to their respective genre if you’re interested in Battle Royales or Fighting games. Don’t forget, Fall Guys and COD: Modern Warfare are still available a day or so after the first. So, make sure you download those before they’re gone.
Xbox Live Gold is a subscription that offers 2 Xbox One games and either 2 Xbox 360 games or 1 Xbox 360 and 1 original Xbox game. Disclaimer: Any games obtained will be permanently added to the user’s library even after the subscription ends. All free 360 and original Xbox games will be automatically backward-compatible with the Xbox One.
For September 2020, the Xbox Live Gold player base will be able to download:
- Xbox:
- Armed and Dangerous (September 16th until the 30th)
- Xbox 360:
- De Blob 2 (September 1st until the 15th)
- Xbox One:
- Override: Mech City Brawl (August 16th until September 15th)
- Tom Clancy’s The Division (September 1st until the 30th)
- The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 (September 16th until October 15th)
For me, The Division has a fun game-service model. I don’t think it’s worth $30 right now with its sequel out. But I wouldn’t be against it if it’s technically free-to-play.
Twitch Prime is available to all Amazon Prime members, and it gives PC games and DLC to users each month. Disclaimer: Any games or DLC obtained will be permanently added to the user’s library even after the subscription ends.
To the PC master race for September 2020 (between September 1st until September 30th), you will receive:
- Gunpoint
- Guild of Dungeoneering
- The Adventure Pals
- The Original Strife
- Pumped BMX
Lastly, we got the Epic Games Store also for the PC. Disclaimer: Any games obtained will be added to the user’s library even after the free period. Epic Games Store doesn’t require a paid subscription of any kind.
PC players for September 2020 will also be able to get:
- Hitman 2016 (August 27th until September 3rd)
- Shadowrun Collection (August 27th until September 3rd)
- Into the Breach (September 3rd until 10th)
- Railway Empire (September 10th until 17th)
- Where the Water Tastes like Wine (September 10th until 17th)
- Football Manager 2020 (September 17th until 24th)
- Stick it to the Man! (September 17th until 24th)
- Watch_Dogs 2 (September 17th until 24th)
I will keep it simple, pick up HITMAN and Watch_Dogs 2. Both were big surprises back in 2016. With the game’s premise of a master assassin and global travel being the main backbones of this franchise reboot, it’s hard for me to say no.
Overall, September looks to be an ambitious series of games. I haven’t played most games here, but each one had at least one game that left me intrigued. The only downside to this month of free games is that it happened when schools are in full swing.
