Free Games for August 2020

What’s up gaming community, we are back. Another new month, another set of free games to get with those paid subscriptions or apps. This article will contain a list of free games for August 2020 varying by platform (PlayStation, Xbox, or PC). 

As a reminder, Epic Games won’t announce which game is free until the week prior. So, this article will be updated weekly. Without further ado, let’s begin.

PlayStation Plus is a subscription that offers 2-3 PS4 games and maybe (likely not) a PS3 or PS Vita game. Disclaimer: If your subscription expires, the games are blocked without renewal or buying the game separately.

For August 2020, PlayStation Plus player base will be able to download:  

• Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout (August 4th until 31st) 
• Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered (July 28th until August 31st)

Call of Duty: MW2 is known to be the best in the franchise. If you ever want to see what the hype was about, now is your chance. After playing this game, check out the games from Respawn Entertainment. The company was created by the same dev team and made gems like Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends.

Before moving to Xbox Live, I also wanted to remind people that the games I mentioned from last month in detail are still free until August 3rd.

Xbox Live Gold is a subscription that offers 2 Xbox One games and a combination between 2 Xbox 360 games or two original Xbox games. Disclaimer: Any games obtained will be permanently added to the user’s library even after the subscription ends. All free 360 and original Xbox games will be automatically backwards-compatible with the Xbox One.  

For August 2020, the Xbox Live Gold players will be able to download:

  • MX Unleashed (August 1st until 15th) 
  • Red Faction II (August 16th until 31st) 
• Xbox One:  
  • Dunk Lords (July 16th until August 15th) 
  • Portal Knights (August 1st until 31st)
  • Override: Mech City Brawl (August 16th until September 15th)

Twitch Prime is available to all Amazon Prime members, and it gives PC games and DLC to users each month. Disclaimer: Any games or DLC obtained will be permanently added to the user’s library even after the Prime subscription ends. 

To the PC master race for August 2020 (between August 1st until August 31st), you will receive:

6. Turok 2: Bad Seed (ends August 3rd)

Lastly, we got the Epic Games Store also for the PC. Disclaimer: Any games obtained will be added to the user’s library even after the free period. Epic Games Store doesn’t require a paid subscription of any kind. 

PC players for August 2020 will also be able to get:

• 20XX (July 30th until August 6th)
• Barony (July 30th until August 6th)
• Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery (July 30th until August 6th)
• 3 out of 10 Ep 1: Welcome to Shovelworks (August 6th until 13th)
• Wilmont’s Warehouse (August 6th until 13th)
• Remnant: From the Ashes (August 13th until 20th)
• The Alto Collection (August 13th until 20th)
• Enter the Gungeon (August 20th until 27th)
• God’s Trigger (August 20th until 27th)
• Hitman 2016 (August 27th until September 3rd)
• Shadowrun Collection (August 27th until September 3rd)

Overall, August is a little low on free games. In defense, July was a hard month to follow. So much so, some games bled over to August. I can’t say I will hate August because more games are shown later throughout the month. But for now, the month looks a little quiet.
